Social Program

All partecipants are welcome to attend the conference's social events including the social tour and conference dinner, as well as the (optional) post conference excursions in some of the most interesting cultural/touristic locations in eastern Sicily.



Social Tour

On Wednesday 14/10 a social tour will bring all the registered participants to Tindari to visit its old Greek Theater and the Sanctuary dedicated to the Black Madonna of Tindari.

Tindari (ancient name Tyndaris) is situated on a bold and lofty hill standing out as a promontory into the spacious bay of the Tyrrhenian Sea bounded by the Punta di Milazzo on the east, and the Capo Calava on the west, 36 miles from Messina. It was a Greek city, and one of the latest of all the cities in Sicily that could claim a purely Greek origin, having been founded by the elder Dionysius in 396 or 395 BC.

Conference Banquet

The social dinner will take place on Wednesday 14th at Ristorante Bellavista, Via Circuito, 98164 Torre Faro, Messina (http://www.bellavistaristorante.info/). Participants attending the Social Tour will go directly to the restaurant by bus after the tour. The same bus will bring them back to the city center at the end of the banquet. People not attending the Social Tour are kindly requested to contact the conference organizers for alternative solutions to reach the Restaurant.



Post conference excursions

Starting from Friday 16/10, optional post conference tours will be organized, upon request, to some of the most extraordinary cultural and artistic sites in Sicily.

- Taormina: Half day morning (9.00 - 13.30) or afternoon (16.30 - 20.30) excursions include travel by bus, visit to the Greek Theater, time (1.30h) for free visit and shopping thorough the charming streets of Taormina.
- Etna Volcano: Half day (8.30 - 13.15) excursion includes travel by bus up to 1920 mt, and guided excursion to discover the fascinating volcanic phenomena, walking through ancient woods, on eccentric craters and unique lava formations.
- Siracusa: Full day excursion (7.30 - 17.00) includes travel by bus, visit of the archaeological park to admire the ancient Greek Theater and the Orecchio di Dionisio (Dionisio's ear), visit of the Ortigia island where you will find the ancient Apollo temple and the Aretusa fountain. Free lunch.



Terms and Conditions
- The Social Tour to Tindari is included in the registration fee and will be open for all the registered participants. Appropriate dressing is required to visit the Sanctuary. Both men and women need to have at least their shoulders and knees covered.
- Post conference excursions are optional, and will be organized upon request of the participants. Their cost is not included in the registration fee and can be payed on-site. A minimum number of 15 participants per trip is required. Adhesions will be collected on-site or by prior consultation with our Travel Agency Moresca Viaggi.
- Excursion to Etna requires suitable mountain dressing.
